A Brief History

Our church came into being when some believers in Plett felt that there was a strong
need for the establishment of a charismatic church in the town.
Bob Hodgson, the then pastor of Mossel Bay Community Church and coordinator of
the IFCC for the Southern Cape, was approached and an invitation was extended to
Danie and Elsa Pretorius to come to Plett and pastor the new church.
The Lord confirmed His will through giving Elsa the Scripture from Zechariah 4: 6,
“This is the Word of Jehovah to Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but
by My Spirit, says the Lord.”
On the 3rd of December 1993, the first official service was held in the Community
Hall. The church grew steadily and at the end of the year, the first elders, Bruce and
Ida Dodds, Andrew and Sandy Smith and Simon and Tina Sykes were appointed.
Although there was never a lack of temporary accommodation, there was always a
strong desire for the church fellowship to have their own premises. Then, while on
holiday in the Karoo in 1997, the Lord gave Danie a word that our fellowship would
be given a piece of land in the center of town, upon which we could build a church.
A long search followed to find the right property, but miraculously, in 2001, land was
donated near the junction of the N2 and Marine Way. The Word of the Lord was
fulfilled. In 2001 construction began and our new church opened its doors on the
26th of May 2002.
Tony Simmonds was appointed as the first youth pastor with the mission to reach
young people in our town; a task he and Samantha, his wife, tackled with vigour.
Anton and Martie Meintjes were appointed as assistant pastors in 2002 followed by
Johan and Ronel Coetzee in 2003
In June 2005, after serving for over 12 years as founder pastors of the church, Danie
and Elsa left for Stellenbosch where they have taken up ministry in another church.
Johan and Ronel were appointed as senior pastors following Danie’s departure and
they were joined as pastors by Andrew and Sandy Smith in July 2005, as well as by
André and Nicolette van Eeden in April 2006. At the end of January 2009, Anton
Meintjes resigned and at the end of November 2015, Andrew Smith resigned.
Taegan Horn was inaugurated as a pastor in June 2016.
In 2021 Andre van Eeden resigned as a full time pastor but still remains part of the Eldership team.
Currently the eldership consists of the
two pastors and their two wives, as well as
Andre and Nicolette van Eeden, Jannie and Elize Kirsten and Peter and Claire Carr.
