Shofar - Instrument of God
Isaiah 18:3 “All you inhabitants of the world, you who dwell on the earth when a banner is raised on the mountains - LOOK! When a shofar is blown - LISTEN!"

There are two types of trumpets used in the Bible, namely the silver trumpet and the ram’s horn (Shofar).

Shofar is a Hebrew word that comes from the root word meaning “to glisten”, “fair”, “beauty”.

The sound of a ram’s horn comes from the root word “Teruah” which in Hebrew means acclamation of joy, clamor, rejoicing, high joyful sound, loud noise, wild shout, a battle cry, to announce forcefully or loudly.

The Shofar is usually made from the horn of a male sheep (ram). It can also be made from the horn of a wild goat, any antilope, the African Kudu, but never from the horn of a steer or a cow as that would be reminiscent of the golden calf made by the Israelites in the desert.

The Shofar was used in the Bible times for various occasions ranging from rallying the troops together to signaling approaching danger.

The Shofar is symbolically important to God. Along with the Harp, the Shofar is the most spoken of instrument in the Bible. While the Harp is used to calm and soothe the spirit and soul, the Shofar is used to grab hold of the  attention and the spirit of the people.  The Harp is a consoler while the Shofar is a preparer and proclaimer. The Shofar is used in war and worship. The blowing of the Shofar is like a prayer without words.
  • God blew His divine Shofar in Exodus 19 during His descent and the giving of the Torah to Moses at Mount Sinai.
  • The Shofar was blown to announce God’s presence and to praise and worship Him. Psalm 98:6, Psalm 150:3
  • Blowing the Shofar is a reminder that God is Sovereign. Psalm 47:5
  • The Shofar was blown to call the people to repentance and fasting. Isaiah 58:1, Hosea 8:1, Joel 2:1
  • It is the watchman’s duty to blow the Shofar. Ezekiel 33:3-6
  • The Shofar was blown to sound the warning of approaching. Zephaniah 1:14-16, Amos 3:6
  • The sound of the Shofar will usher in the Day of the Lord. Joel 2:1
  • The Lord will blow the Shofar when He appears to deliver Israel from their enemies. Zechariah 9:14 - 16
  • The Shofar will be blown at our Messiah’s second coming and at the resurrection of the dead. 1 Thessalonians 4:5, 1 Corinthians 15:51(b), 52
When we blow our Shofarim, we are declaring our faith in God’s ability to demolish the strongholds in our lives.

When we blow our Shofarim, it is a wake-up call, it is a warning cry, it is a beckoning for the Bride to prepare and be ready. 1 Thessalonians 4:5, 1 Corinthians 15:52.

When we sound the Shofar we are asking God to remember us - it is like a prayer that ascends to God’s throne saying: “O Lord, may the sound of my Shofar ascend before Your Throne.  Remember Your Covenant,
forgive me, save me, and deliver me!”

THE SHOFAR IS USED IN WAR AND WORSHIP — LIKE A PRAYER WITHOUT WORDS!
